This project reflects my wider commitment to creating philosophically-rich cinema that invites audiences to engage with the defining moral questions of our time. My background in engineering, theology, pastoral ministry and filmmaking shapes how I approach artificial intelligence, not simply as a technological breakthrough, but as a moral and civilisational pressure test. What makes us human? What is work for? How should extraordinary power be exercised? Moloch is a film about human beings caught within systems they can neither control nor easily escape. The title refers to the ancient image of Moloch, reimagined here as the recurring pattern in which societies sacrifice what is most precious in pursuit of power, efficiency or competition. The film explores that pattern through the lens of artificial intelligence, but its deeper concern is the human heart. My hope is that it encourages conversation not only about AI and regulation, but about the future and what it means to be human. Unless we can articulate a compelling vision of human identity, we cannot ensure that our technologies truly serve it.

Moloch is not a critique of AI itself. Molly is not presented as evil, nor is she the film’s true antagonist. Rather, she reflects the values of her creators and the competitive systems in which she was built. The real danger lies in the incentive structures that push organisations to build increasingly powerful technologies, even when the individuals involved recognise the risks. For that reason, we deliberately kept Molly in the background. She functions as a tool rather than a character. The real conflict is between people, their competing philosophies, and the systems they choose to build. AI simply amplifies those choices. It is not the villain, it reflects the moral vision of those who create and deploy it.
